Museum District – Just southwest of downtown, the pedestrian-friendly Museum District welcomes visitors to explore the 19 cultural institutions that make up the tree-lined, culture-filled neighborhood. Just to name a few highlights, the district is the proud home of the Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Children’s Museum of Houston.
Discovery Green – The 12-acre Discovery Green park features tree-shaded walkways leading to a tranquil pond while grassy slopes offer postcard views of downtown Houston. Just across the street from the George R. Brown Convention Center, it’s a convenient spot to recharge or take a call in between conference meetings.
Minute Maid Park – Home of the Houston Astros, and just two blocks from the George R. Brown Convention Center, Minute Maid Park offers tours year-round, Monday through Saturday, where available. The design of the ballpark features a retractable roof and was greatly influenced by the surrounding neighborhood including the 1911 vintage Union Station, a former rail-passenger terminal, that forms the ballpark’s main entrance in left field.
Downtown Aquarium is the product of redeveloping two downtown Houston landmarks – Fire Station No. 1 and the Central Waterworks Building. This magnificent six-acre entertainment and dining complex is a 500,000-gallon aquatic wonderland, home to more than 300 species of aquatic life from around the globe. With a full-service restaurant, an upscale bar, a fully equipped ballroom, aquatic and geographic exhibits, shopping and a variety of amusements, Downtown Aquarium has it all!
Theater District – The height of class, sophistication and any other word one would associate with a night of culture. Downtown’s premier theater venues, Alley Theatre, Jones Hall and Wortham Theater Center, all sit within a block from one another with the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts located just a hop, skip and a jump away. Downtown destinations Bayou Place, AMC Houston 8 and family favorite Downtown Aquarium are also located within just a few blocks of the major theaters and many dining destinations abound leaving you confident you won’t miss the curtain call.
